Our Local Club
Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes (SIKL) is one of 12 clubs of the Soroptimist International of the Americas Inc., Eastern Canada Region, and was chartered in September 2011.
Our club meets once a month, except July and August (10x / year) for our general club meeting where we update all members on the programs and events that have been happening, and the events planned in the future. As a club, we determine the focus of our work within the community. Check out the programs that we are involved with.
As a charitable organization, we are governed by our constitution and by-laws, and vote on a board each year.

Members belong to committees, where the planning takes place.
Program Committee: oversees the Dream Programs, GOAL, Positive Influence Award and local programs selected by the club such as club baking and the Christmas initiatives. This committee meets 7-9 times a year.
Membership: Members are proud of the work that we do within the City of Kawartha Lakes, and refer friends and family to Soroptimist. Usually a special event is held once a year, where invitations are sent to specific women to hear more about our work, and see if this is something that they would be interested in joining.
Fundraising: In order to deliver our services and programs, it is essential that we raise funds to carry out our mission of helping women and girls achieve their full potential. We have several events throughout the year where community businesses and individuals come together to support our work. Read about it HERE.
Public Awareness: While not a ‘committee’ (no formal meetings), members ensure that press releases are sent to local media outlets with note-worthy accomplishments.
Members are able to participate in the projects and events that interest them, with the expectation that all members contribute time to uphold our mission.
If you are interested in learning more about the work we do as Soroptimists, please contact us. We would be happy to share our enthusiasm.
